Frequently Asked Questions

All answered by Dr. Meyleen Izquierdo

  • How often should I visit the dentist for a check-up?

The minimum amount of visits per year should be two. Each person has different conditions and therefore some people need to be seen more often. A person with bone loss or periodontal disease has that condition for life and should be seen 4 times per year.

Someone with a lot of fillings and/or crowns also should be seen more than twice per year. A person that does not floss or brush regularly is likely to have more inflammation and/or active disease and should be seen with a greater frequency.

  • What payment options are available for dental services?

We accept cash, credit card, or a number of financing options thru various lenders that can sometimes offer an extended amount of time with 0% interest.

  • What insurance do you take?

We accept all PPO insurances and will work diligently to maximize your yearly benefits.

  • What if I dont have dental insurance?

We offer an in-house coverage to take care of your preventive needs for a fraction of the price of traditional dental insurance.

  • What should I do if I have a dental phobia or anxiety?

Our spa-like setting creates a calm atmosphere in which to work while our technology greatly helps speed up procedures and make them far more comfortable and enjoyable. However, extreme dental anxiety can often be managed with nitrous oxide or laughing gas.

Your provider can help explain the benefits and find the best option for you.

  • How can I improve my dental hygiene at home?

Brushing twice per day and flossing once, at a minimum is recommended. Avoiding sugary drinks and snacking in between meals will help, as well. Everyone can benefit from an electric toothbrush with a timer and a pressure sensor. Our office gets special pricing on dental products such as electric toothbrushes and water flossers. HSA/FSA funds can be used towards these.

  • What are the signs of a dental cavity?

Discolorations in teeth, areas that feel like there are craters or holes, as well as bad odors can be signs of cavities. However, sometimes cavities have not burst through the surface and are festering inside. That is why a minimum of two exams per year with xrays are necessary to determine if cavities are present and need to be addressed.

  • How can I schedule an appointment?

Our staff is happy to book appointments over the phone, via email or you can schedule thru our online portal.

  • Do you treat children?

Yes! We treat both children and adults of all ages.

  • What is the best way to whiten my teeth?

Each person has a different range in which they will whiten. There are different options that are often tailored to achieve the best result. Some individuals may need just a maintenance at home, while others need an in office treatment first.

Certain conditions require a very specific protocol to achieve whiter teeth. Your dentist should first make sure any large cavities are stabilized and gum health is optimal.

  • How do I know if I have gum disease?

Gum disease often goes undiagnosed because it is one of those conditions that often does not hurt. The gums may bleed, feel or look swollen and be accompanied by a foul odor. It is important to measure your gums to determine if it is a reversible condition, or signs of a more serious condition involving loss of bone.

  • Why is it important to treat gum disease and bone loss?

Gum disease and bone loss affect one out of two adults over the age of 35. If left untreated, gum disease has been linked to heart disease, stroke, alzheimers, pre-term, low birth weight babies, complications in diabetes, etc. Untreated conditions in the mouth can affect the rest of the body and even cause death.
